As for previous census but some new questions and changes to existing questions.
New questions:
- Was person working at home? (Introduction to facilitate more effective
administration of the Factory Acts.)
Changes to existing questions:
- Question re birthplace changed to: "State the Birthplace of each
person. 1. If in England and Wales, the County and Town, or Parish. 2. If
in Scotland or Ireland, the name of the County. 3. If in a British Colony
or Dependency, the name of the Colony or Dependency. 4. If in a Foreign
Country, the name of the Country, and whether the person be a 'British Subject',
a 'Naturalised British Subject', or a 'Foreign Subject' specifying nationality
such as 'French', 'German', &c."
- In question re medical disability the phrase 'feeble-minded' replaced
'idiot' and householders were warned not to use vague terms such as 'afflicted'
or 'infirm'.
